INTRODUCTION

The Church of the Transfiguration (COTT) in Punggol is the 32nd Catholic church built in Singapore, serving a growing community of around 15,000 Catholics. The parish celebrated its first Mass on Maundy Thursday in 2017, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the life of the Catholic Church in Punggol.

The journey to build COTT was one marked by faith, generosity and a remarkable spirit of community. Rev. Fr. Joachim Chang, who was entrusted with establishing the new parish, visited parishes across the Archdiocese to raise the funds needed for the construction of the church. Catholics from across Singapore, together with migrant workers, foreigners and people of other faiths, generously contributed to the building fund. Their collective support helped make COTT a reality and remains a testament to the generosity of the wider community.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Rev. Fr. Alphonsus Dominic succeeded Fr Joachim as the second Parish Priest of COTT. He shepherded the parish through a time of great uncertainty, while also navigating the financial challenges and ongoing care of the church building. With a shepherd’s heart, Fr Alphonsus remained dedicated to forming the People of God, nurturing community life through neighbourhood outreach, digital engagement and pastoral care.

In 2026, Rev. Fr. Gabriel Wong was appointed the third Parish Priest of the Church of the Transfiguration. As COTT enters this new chapter, we look forward to continuing our journey together as a community of faith — growing closer to Christ, deepening our faith, and reaching out in love to one another and to the wider community.
