PRAYER DEVOTIONS

Prayer, the lifting of the mind and heart to God, plays an essential role in the life of a devout Catholic. Without a life of prayer, we risk losing the life of grace in our souls, grace that comes to us first in baptism and later chiefly through the other sacraments and through prayer itself (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2565). Through prayer we enter into the presence of the Godhead dwelling in us. It is prayer which allows us to adore God, by acknowledging his almighty power; it is prayer that allows us to bring our thanks, our petitions, and our sorrow for sin before our Lord and God.

Praying in the company of others marks us out as community of believers. Christ himself encouraged us to pray together: “For wherever two or more are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them” (Matt. 18:20).

There are a number of prayer communities in COTT dedicated to a variety of prayer devotions. We invite you to join one of the groups as you journey together in holiness before the Lord.

Charismatic Prayer Group

The Charismatic Prayer Group’s role is to bring to all people the experience of Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour and the Father’s abundant love, through the authentic encounter of the Holy Spirit in their lives. We are committed to having everyone grow in their relationship with the Lord, receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit and use it for service and evangelisation.

The Group’s main activity is a weekly prayer meeting, which includes praise and worship, exercising of the charismatic gifts, scripture reading and reflection and personal testimonies of the Lord’s living presence in our lives.

Prayer meetings are held every Friday from 8.15pm to 9.45pm at the 4th floor Function Room.

We welcome all who are yearning for a deeper and more personal loving experience of the Lord and desire to be part of a community of love, unity and service.

Christian Meditation

Christian Meditation teaches a simple way of contemplative prayer. It is part of the World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM), as taught by Fr John Main OSB.

This is a simple and practical way of contemplative prayer that takes us beyond thoughts, words, and images, and opens us to the transforming presence of the indwelling spirit of Christ.

“Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46.10)

The group meets on a weekly basis and newcomers are always welcome.

Home Rosary

The Home Rosary Ministry reaches out and offers spiritual support to brothers and sisters who are in need. By praying the Rosary, we bring to God the petitions and intentions of our parishioners, our petitions for each other, for our families, for our struggles and for our community. Parishioners will be especially blessed as the shrine of Our Lady of Fatima will grace their homes as part of the devotion.

Members attend prayers in the homes of those who invite the shrine to their home.Home visits are carried out 4 days of the week – Mon, Tues, Wed (8:15pm) and Sun (3pm)

Each devotion session lasts about 40mins. During the session, Ministry members and the host family pray together and the family may have their petitions lifted up to God.

This message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kowalska.
