God Becomes a Part of My Life | 30 Jul 2022
Before I got to know God, I went through numerous near-death experiences.
In my early twenties, while in a sales job, I was driving to fulfil an urgent delivery for a customer. A trailer tried to overtake my car while I was trying to turn and my car screen shattered into pieces. As the driver had banged into the car door on my side, I was not able to open it. A passer-by nearby saw me and woke me from my shock, saying I had to come out of the car. I exited from the other side. My car was totally damaged.
Though I escaped with minor injuries, the impact of the accident caused me to have recurrent nightmares and subsequently, I fell sick and was hospitalized. It took me a few months to recover from the trauma of the accident.
Later on, I went into a business partnership, which did not turn out well. I got into huge amounts of debts and made friends who cheated me and caused me to go further into debts. These trials lasted for a few years. During this period, I fell into depression.

It was at this point that a true friend of mine invited me to attend a healing service in church. I had been experiencing a lot of distress and try as I might, couldn’t find peace in me. But during the service, Peace found me, and I subsequently decided to accept God into my life.
But things did not change immediately. In fact, it got worse for awhile. I was thrown out of my parent’s house by my brother, and became homeless, jobless, and penniless. That my family did not understand me and had thrown me out, wounded me deeply at the core of my being.
I also felt I did not have friends at the time who truly cared for me. Without understanding, it felt like I had no way out. In the next few years, I attempted suicide a few times but was somehow always saved at the last minute.

God always intervened somehow. Let me tell you about one most providential night, while I was sitting on the ledge of a 20th storey HDB block, ready to end my life. Looking down I thought to myself, “What a beautiful world this is, but it’s my last time seeing it.” I was about to let myself off the ledge when my phone rang.
It was a Christian friend whom I had met recently. He was brave and talked to me continuously, trying to calm me down. He even got another lady friend to call me after he hung up. What my friends said touched my heart and helped me decide not to jump down from the building.
Every time I encounter problems, God always shows up, either through people or the messages that I receive on my phone. Through these experiences, God is someone who has become a part of my life.

I know that He is always there for me and that he loves me. Whenever I have challenges in my life, God sends someone to remind me that He loves me, and that He is always there for me. Now my life has totally changed. Despite the challenges that I still face, I have the love and support from family and friends. I am alive, married, and blessed with three beautiful boys.
As a way of multiplying God’s grace towards me, I hope I may bless you, my readers, with this verse from Proverbs 3:5-6:

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
And lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him,
And he shall direct thy paths.

Reflection Questions
- 1) Do you have a criteria for trusting God? Or do you trust Him at all times and in all circumstances?
- 2) How will you describe your relationship with God?
